Fridge freezer ice maker not working
If your fridge freezer has a fitted ice maker, E0 and EE are the codes to look for — but a stopped ice maker is more often a turned-off or kinked water supply than a fault.
Likely causes, ranked
- Water supply off or kinked Most likely — The ¼-inch supply line behind the appliance can be turned off or crushed. Hotpoint E0/EE often follow this.
- Ice bin full or jammed Likely — A full bin or clumped ice blocks the harvest arm, so production stops until it is emptied.
- Water inlet valve failed Less likely — No water reaches the ice maker even with a good supply — the solenoid valve has failed.
- Ice maker assembly fault Less likely — The module that fills, freezes and harvests has failed — Hotpoint flags E0 (ice maker fault) or EE (circuit fault).
First checks
- Check the water supply valve behind the appliance is fully open.
- Check the supply line for kinks.
- Empty the ice bin and check nothing blocks the harvest arm.
- Reset: unplug 2 minutes, wait 30 seconds, power back on.
- Wait up to 24 hours — ice makers cycle slowly.
Safety
Unplug and turn off the water supply before checking behind the appliance.

Supply is good, bin is clear, and no ice after 24 hours — the ice maker or inlet valve needs an engineer.
